Caspian tern study

$90.00

Often when I practise painting I'll purposely use student grade watercolour paper to avoid anxiety about painting on expensive cotton watercolour paper. Also I sometimes paint directly without a preliminary drawing which can have surprising results. Working this way allows me to have more freedom and less mental constraints. This painting was one of those occasions.
We had spent the morning walking along our local dam wall where terns and pelicans among other water birds are often fishing or preening themselves on the sandy spits. I took several photos and painted this study in my little studio when I got home.
